Buying a Gas Cabinet to Keep Your Workplace Safe
A lot of businesses don’t even consider the need for having a gas cabinet to store hazardous materials until they have a near miss accident or they fail to meet code. These are businesses that don’t typically rely upon gas cylinders in the same way that a hospital or laboratory does, but that still contains cylinders on their premises and must store them properly.
Restaurants and large concession based businesses rely upon carbonation in order to keep their soda and their beer carbonated. However, these are the businesses that quite often fail to secure their cabinets properly. While a tank of CO2 isn’t necessarily a volatile gas, there are a number of things that go wrong with an improperly stored tank.
First of all, you could have a cylinder that is not chained to a wall fall over and knock of the valve which could launch a full tank into the air. These cylinders are extremely heavy when they are full and when they are empty. If you have cylinders rolling around they could pose numerous dangers. People have suffered from hearing loss after being exposed to the sound created by a number of empty cylinders toppling over. Sometimes just chaining these cylinders to a wall does not cover all of the bases necessary to have them stored properly.
A cabinet will keep all of your cylinders stored upright and guarantee that they can not topple over. Even if gas storage is not one of your business’s paramount concerns it is something that you should look into before one of your employees is injured.
